In the Fall of 2021 NNGI was given permission to install native
garden beds at the Northport Village Hall. With the help of some hard-working volunteers we met at Village Hall and installed over 150 native plants. As this garden would be the “centerpiece” of our Village, creating awareness of the beauty of native plants, plans were carefully drawn and each plant was selected taking into consideration their bloom time, structure, and benefit to our local wildlife.

In the Fall of 2025, NNGI board members and some extremely
helpful volunteers, worked hard to give the native gardens in front of
Northport Village Hall a refresh. The focus of the revitalization was to unify the three distinct sections of the gardens, creating a more harmonious and intentional landscape that reflects the beauty and resilience of native ecosystems. We also sought to enhance seasonal interest by adjusting some of the native plant species to provide vibrant color and texture in both spring and fall.

To accomplish this NNGI donated approximately 50 new plants.
Any plants that were removed were relocated to fill in and further enhance the beauty of the garden beds surrounding the LILCO Building in downtown Northport.

We want to thank Village personnel for their ongoing support
of our public gardens, including Mayor Donna Koch, Trustee Meghan Dolan Saporita, and Village Administrator Roland Buzard. We so appreciate their willingness to showcase native plants and their recognition of the need to educate people as to why native plants are so crucial for the health of our community and the planet.

We also want to send a special shout-out to Monica Zenyuh
for all that she does for the gardens at the LILCO building. Monica has
graciously offered to take charge of those gardens, spending countless hours keeping the gardens looking their best. Thank you, Monica!
